So the number one question that I get, even after 5 years, is how I ended up moving from California to Spain.
But let's ignore that question for a moment and focus on the second most asked question, which is...
What's it like being a Black person living in Spain?
And for that answer, I have made a video not only sharing my experience but another Black woman who traveled to Spain with her family!
Now I said this in the video, that the information in the video is based on experience. If you've had a different experience, that's ok. The information is anecdotal and not based on facts.
This video is meant to give insight.
It also encourages different ways to travel. You'll learn how to
intergrate yourself into a culture.
find best ways practice your second language.
travel for more authentic experiences.
Grab a cup of coffee or tea and enjoy the videos! Don't forget to like and subscribe.
Some things to consider
KJ and I, both had similar experiences. Something that led to these mirrored experiences were
Where we stayed
Our use of the language
How much of an effort we made to integrate wth the culture and local people.
We can't always control how other people react to or treat us. Especially when traveling while Black. People have biases and perceptions of Black people that have been ingrained in them.
Yet it's important as Black travlers we continue to show up in the world and consider how we showup.
Us being in the world helps to break people's perceptions. It allows us to grow.
If you want to learn more about my experience in Spain, you can check out these other interviews where I go in depth about what it's been like for me living in Spain. In this video, I talk about
Living in Spain and learning to speak Spanish
My first impression when I got to Spain
Finding community in Spain
And expanding my creativity through dance
This is another video I did about pursuing my passions of writing and dancing in Spain. https://www.youtube.com/live/Q8teNcI1VcI?si=nGTwiXIjsb2-V0GW
